SayHi was shut down. Here is what to use instead

SayHi Translate let two people talk through one phone, and it was free. It stopped working in August 2024. These are the apps that do the same job today, the free ones first and Nualingo, which we make, last.

What happened to SayHi

SayHi Translate was a voice translation app owned by Amazon. It stopped working in early August 2024; one user reported it discontinued as of 5 August. It was taken out of the App Store and Google Play, copies already on phones stopped working, and Amazon gave no public reason. When we checked in October 2026, its Google Play page was gone and sayhi.com no longer loaded.

What to use instead

Google Translate, the closest free match

Free on Android and iPhone, more than 70 languages in live conversation, and the translation read aloud. Like SayHi, it uses one phone for both people, and it notices by itself when one language stops and the other starts.

Microsoft Translator, free with no ads

Both people speak into one microphone and the app reads the translation aloud. Microsoft retired its conversations across several phones on 30 June 2026, but the one-phone conversation is still there.

Samsung Interpreter, on a recent Galaxy

Built into Galaxy phones from the S24 series on, with 22 languages, Thai among them. Each person taps their own microphone on a split screen. It needs a Samsung account.

Apple's Translate app, on an iPhone

It comes on the phone. The Face to Face view gives each person their own side of the screen, and with the languages downloaded it translates on the iPhone itself.

Nualingo, in the browser

Ours. It runs in the phone's browser in any two of 60 languages, shows each sentence with its translation under it and reads the translation aloud. It is not free the way SayHi was: each device gets three minutes a day, then plans start at $5.99 a month. It needs an internet connection.

Questions people ask

Is SayHi Translate still available?
No. It stopped working in August 2024 and was taken out of the App Store and Google Play. Copies already installed no longer work.
Why was SayHi shut down?
Amazon, which owned it, gave no public reason. People who opened the app found a notice that it had been discontinued, with no explanation.
What is the closest free replacement for SayHi?
Google Translate's conversation mode. It is free, it uses one phone for both people, and it speaks the translation. On a recent Galaxy, Samsung's Interpreter is also free and already on the phone.
Does Nualingo work like SayHi?
In the main thing, yes: two people share one phone and each hears the other in their own language. Nualingo runs in the browser rather than as an app, keeps the whole conversation on screen, and is paid after three free minutes a day.
